Hiya James,

I've got a Dell Latitude c600 here which I have used to do some audio stuff
with.

It's a P3 1 ghz with 128 meg / cdrw / 14.1" LCD and it runs better than my
desktop PC !

Admittedly I've done no external midi work with it but the internal generic
sound card (ESS maestro)
seem to be fine for lite work.

I use it for working with audio when Im out and about - for things like
added effects to wavs or
cutting up the odd breakbeat.

When I get back to base the laptop connects via a mini LAN (crossover) to
my studio PC where I can take all
the wavs and up them into my sampler.

I reckon any laptop these days above P3 900mhz will serve you well - as for
a dedicated sound card im not too
sure - but if you dont mind hooking upto a desktop at the end of the day
this solution is ideal.
