Or better yet the 896...just saw the back of my new em mag today....neutrik
in's..yum
http://www.motu.com/english/motuaudio/896/body.html

I'm thinking 1394/firewire will be the defacto audio connect just like it
has been in the desktop video sector....so motu896 is the your best bet.
There is no need for an expensive PCMCIA card just a standard 1394
port....usb is just too low bandwidth at 12mbit great performance...

As for the pc laptop....you want something indestructable....and dell
latitude is the way to go....they had a streak for winning the laptop pc
torture test (heat, cold, drop, coffee in the kb)...but alas the only dell
laptop that has firewire is the Inspiron 8100...a very decent laptop in it's
own right.

But reality check now....apple invented firewire so I would highly reccomend
an apple laptop for music production/recording. From my expierience with my
firewire glyph drive on windows, I guessing mac firewire peformance is much
better since firewire on windows hardware is an afterthought just like
networking on win95 was. While I am typing this on my work latitude on my
couch, I would definitely hesitate to bring a windows laptop into a stage
production or live recording situtation...an apple ibook or powerbook would
make me fell much better concering stability....check out any info on
professional stage computer use and it always involves powerbooks.....of
course this is only for peeps wanting more than dubplate production from
their laptop, that want to bring part of their rig to the club along with
the bag of records....

i guess the ideal system would be any apple powerbook with motu 896 and
emagic amt8....so that your audio(firewire) and midi(usb) data are separate
for performance purposes....with logic on os9 now and os10 this year.......

snowed in LOS's angle....

peace James
