I have a Quantum Fireball 10 gig drive which came with my e5K turbo. Havent had any problems with it (yet). I dont think you neccesarily need the hardrive mounting kit EMU from since it's just a data cable, power cable and some screws, but it nice cause they are all the right size and you dont have to worry about trying to stuff a 3 foot cable into the case.
Sounds to me like you got duped on the RAM =( Try taking the other chip out - i think (but am not sure) that they need to be even pairs. Perhaps one is 16MB, and the other is 64MB but it will only read 32MB because it's drops the first one to 16Mb. I'm not 100% sure on this, but worth a try.
