One of our customers attempted to transfer a GoDaddy "private registration" (domainsbyproxy.com) domain name to us. After giving all necessary approvals (including approving it with Tucows and entering an EPP AUTHCODE), GoDaddy sent him this:

Dear Customer,
The request to transfer FASTCASH4HOMES.BIZ to another registrar has been denied. This domain is currently a Private Registration.
If you would still like to transfer this domain to another registrar, you must first cancel your Private Registration.
To cancel your Private Registration, log in to your Domains By Proxy Account at:

This is a flat out violation of the July 2004 transfer policy, which quite definitely does not allow "the domain is currently a Private Registration" as a reason for refusal. (The domain name in question is not locked.)

Ross, how about asking GoDaddy (via the private transfers address) to justify this particular denial?

In any case, if anyone receives a transfer attempt for a domainsbyproxy.com domain name, you know up front that it won't work any more. (It used to; I transferred one last week. GoDaddy is getting progressively more evil. Market share seems to have that effect.)
