This fits in perfectly with a conversation I am having with
Ray Janssen. I started playing guitar a little over 30 years
ago. Mainly because my parents wanted me to play anything but
drums. That did not work so I put down guitar and played drums anyway. My major
influences were Keith Moon and Carl
Palmer. A couple of years later I started playing in bands.
As the drummer, the gear was usually left at my house. So
I started playing guitar again between rehearsals. My guitar influences then were Tony
Iommi and Jerry Garcia. After years
of playing parties and small clubs as a drummer, then as
drummer, lead singer and part-time guitar in a dual drum band
I too got married. The rock and roll life style didn't fit in
a wife and kids. So I got a real job and dropped out of the
band. I still play my Gibson SG loud enough to drive the
family out of the house whenever possible.
