David, I agree with you 100%! There is one cool station here in Denver,
KUVO, that plays jazz, and they have a great program on Sunday afternoons
called "Orgy in Rhythm" which is about black music from all over the world
(jazz, blues, rock n roll, African, middle eastern, Brazilian, you get the
picture) and that's it! Too bad we couldn't start a radio station that would
truly be free-form!

i always wonder why there is not one commercial, non-college station (to my
knowledge) in america that shuns formats and programming and hits and instead
plays really really cool music. instead of playing china grove, they'd play
ukiah, or here to love you, or spirit, or just in time. rather than playing
santana's black magic woman, they'd play one of his 25-minute psychedelic
journeys from 1972, or something with some transendental chanting in it.
there's so much great classic rock that never gets played and is so far
beyond the hits. i'd tune in all day, but i guess people just don't really
like music anymore, except the dedicated fans.
it's incredible, really - not one station in the land that i know of does
that. not one!
