Hi,

I thought Lucid was working fine until this morning. I needed to change
permissions on a partition and launched Konsole to do it through bash.
Unfortunately, after about 30 secs or so of waiting, all I got was an empty
Konsole Window with a message in big red letters to say that it was unable to
find /bin/bash. (I can't remember the exact words and it simply doesn't
launch any more.)

I then tried to launch 'Console' which also appears in the KDE Launch Menu.
Same result. I was then able to go into a Virtual Console (ALT/CTRL F*) and
make my changes without any problems.

>From this, I suspect that the problem isn't anything to do with bash, but with
whatever it is that makes the link between Konsole and bash. The trouble is
that I'm not sure how to find the error messages. I've tried typing 'konsole'
in the Virtual Console and get a bunch of errors that are wider than the
display. I don't know if these errors are related to the problem I'm having
in KDE or simply because I can't do that in the VC. (When I type 'kate', I
get a different message telling me that it cannot connect to the X server.)

Any ideas?
