I had a similar situation and found that tryin to connect with Zoom on Linux complained when attempting to run xdg-open, with an alert saying "Failed to open URI zoommtg:// web04.zoom.us/join?action=join&confid=yadayadayada". Since I am running a Linux VM on a Windows laptop I just opened it in Windows instead. A quick Google implied that there are issues that can be worked around but not easily.
