With all the recent actions going on, clearly targeting in getting more paying „pro“ customers (and nothing else!) the dovecot project will walk on thin ice and there is a risk (or chance :) ) that it will get forked, all the good dovecot developers walking over to the fork and dovecot let down to a product no one uses anymore. It happend before, i.ex. nagios/icinga, CentOS/Alma-/Rocky Linux and other big, commonly used software projects. I for my part will also try to stay as long as possible on dovecot 2.x with director and replicator, hoping for a fork which includes those features again in a distant future.
