I think you're clicking the wrong chevron. DQSD's is pointing the other way:
">>". However, it only becomes visible if the search field holds a certain
width, so try making it wider, and it should appear just to the right of the
input box. I believe the one you're trying is the one that displays all tray
notification area icons.

Provided you get the menu showing, can you try and click "Check for
update..."? I think you may have run into a temporary error, but I want to
make sure.
