That's where I'd start! Easy things first.....

Generally speaking, nominal oxidation of the RCA connectors isn't a problem. Salt or other corrosive atmospheres can alter that, but usually just plugging and unplugging connectors a couple of times will clear any problem. One of the nice things about tube gear is that the voltages and currents can burn through normal oxidation. On the other hand, solid-state gear often is "repaired" by merely unplugging and resetting cables and internal PC cards, etc.

One problem that does affect the RCA connectors is their tendency to lose tension, both in the center female socket and the outer male shell. It should require a little effort to unplug a cable, if it just "falls out" it's a good idea to squeeze the shell and the center socket to tighten them up.

Garey,

Thanks for the info. I'll try another 6EV7 as a first attempt at a cure. One other thing I failed to mention earlier, it may sound trivial, but, I've noticed that the connecting cables RCA plugs over the years have oxidized or become tarnished. Should this be a concern for proper operation not only for this problem, but for general operation?
