Hui, I like the current patch much better, it addresses most of the
compatibility issues indeed. The approach we've been discussing should also
allow old 3D drivers  to work with the new DRM and 2D driver though. And I think
this should definitely go into the DRI tree first.

Jan, it looks like the X server isn't able to load the radeon kernel module for
you. Do you have the module-init-tools required for using modules with 2.6
kernels installed? What happens when you try to run modprobe radeon manually?

Erlend, you need to use the patched radeon kernel module built from the XFree86
tree.
