Look in the plugin director, you might be surprised...

I've been wondering if we couldn't somehow either ping this information back
or,... file discovery is a complete pain an often seemed to bite people with
MySQL.

For some reason I was under the impression that some OS'es would identify the
LOCALHOST connection under the hood as peercred but I could be very wrong (or I
am remembering something odd about HPUX 10.20,...).

This seems like a problem that we could come up with a solution for.

As an example, (and not tested, and not fully considered), the server could do
a recv(MSG_PEEK) on connect and see if there is message waiting for it of "tell
me where to find the file".

Or, pick an absurd multiple on the port and just have the server take simple
message requests, one of which can be "find the file".

Or, find a shared memory key and write the information to it,...

Or, write out a file based on port and,...

My biggest concern with this is that we just don't have a situation where the
user by no fault of their own connects to the wrong instance running on the
local box.

Cheers,
        -Brian

BTW I am not suggesting any of the suggestions above are the right idea, the
wrong idea, or even an resemble of an idea.
