And you can tell that there is some error detection/correction because how 
often do you see a bad call sign displayed? If there wasn't, you'd see also 
sorts of crap in the Last Heard list.

My understanding is that the voice uses the FEC built into the AMBE
vocoder, which the headers don't have access to.
