I've just posted a recommendation for DragThing. This begs another one.
You can do the above with DragThing. You can make a keyboard shortcut for
any file document or application on your hard disk. You can extend this
with AppleScript. The advantage is that it doesn't put anything in your
system folder to potentially conflict with anything else and if you need
the extra memory, you can always quit DragThing because it's an
application.
