No I don't have many fonts in the Fonts folder. I have mysteriously
solved the problem.
I installed a Farallon Ethernet Card and updated OS 8.5 to 8.6 and it
now boots in less than 1.5 minutes. I still don't have a serial port
but am connected to my network via apple talk using the Ethernet.
I am mystified. Prior to this I had initialized the hard disk, tried
8.0, 8.1 8.5 and 9.1 all had the slow boot problem.
I don't know if the info in the servers folder could be carried form
system to the system. There is no servers folder in the 8.6 system
now.
