yes.. that sound is interesting kind of like a shortwave radio when you
move your finger over the trackpad.. i've normalised it and used it in a
couple of pieces ;-)
but this was a reason for building a cdr / hd unit.. and using the cdr as a
(rather slow, but infinitely more transportable and a little better
sounding) DAC... but the lack of any ADC (that's reasonably priced) is a
real bummer.
and, i can just take the external unit to a studio, plug it in and dump
stuff down to it digitally, and relatively painlessly.. when you don't have
to worry about levels it doesn't cost that much for a whole cd's worth of
audio
the usb datport is supposed to be good for spdif audio i/o
but that's usb... roll on the cardbus fix!
i have done some things with realtime software (playing with the msp demo,
and LiSa from steim) and i found msp to be quieter than LiSa, but sometimes
it's hard to tell as i use some form of noise in most tracks.. so it
doesn't worry me that much . msp takes the 2400 cpu to the edge though, and
will throw it off if you're not too carefull, but you can get some pretty
amazing stuff happening!
one interesting thing re sound.. when i have the internal squawker (er..
speaker) going and i feed it a high energy low frequency, the whole machine
just 'hangs about' and the screen is very unresponsive.. if i leave it for
too long it will crash. ! :-)
oh, and vision rocks! on the 2400, or any mac for that matter.. just love
that "assign key to a musical sequence" bit.. superb!
my my, this has become a rant... ;D
