After spending a long time evaluating a bronze PowerBook, I made the decision to buy a
PowerBook 2400 with a G3/240 upgrade. I am going to send it to MCE for a 4.3 gig hard
drive and enabling of CardBus, so I can get a USB PC Card and use my USB devices that
I have for my desktop G3 blue and white.

The 2400 is still a very nice machine, and I think it is a bit sturdier.

Portability is the prime importance for me...the only time I use the cd-rom is when I
install software, and I can do that with a standard CD-ROM (although I'm thinking of
buying a PowerCD because they look so cool).

There is heavy speculation that Apple will be coming out with an executive subnotebook
style PowerBook. I really hope it is true. But I don't want to wait 6-12 months for
such a thing to come on the market. When it does I'll be first in line, but until
then, the 2400 seems pretty good to me.

Regarding the battery life, I think I am going to buy either the PowerPlant
(www.pwrplant.com) or PowerPad (www.electrofuel.com) which can give something like
10-16 hours of battery life (they trick the laptop into thinking it is running from AC
power).
