I don't think Jobs cares if you do or not. Jobs hated the Anniversary Mac and
ordered it sold off at less than wholesale to get rid of them (it actually kind
of makes sense, since Jobs set out to design a computer for the "rest of us" and
the TAM was clearly designed for the "elite of us"). But, the redesigned flat
screen line, along with everything else is 100% Jobs. It ain't gonna change
until Jobs gets a new wild hair up his butt. Jobs still thinks the Mac is the
best thing going, although tempered a little more on his business side, he is
producing to the lowest common denominator "the rest of us" and doing whatever
it takes to sell (he's doing what Scully should have done). He is also targeting
the "core" Apple market which is graphic design and consumers. You might be the
only visual/graphic oriented professional I've heard from who wants a smaller
screen (and not a larger) on portable. Meanwhile, Apple is positioning the high
end business server market to make in-roads into the corporate world. You've got
to have a corporate infrastructure before any business executive will buy a
computer based on that platform. So, it will be a long time before Jobs
addresses the needs of the traveling executive, because chances are, they will
not buy the machine anyway without the infrastructure. So, he doesn't care if
you buy a Vaio, because you're not on his radar right now and are unlikely to be
so until sometime down the road. AND, he's cocky and arrogant enough still to
think that when he does finally get around to you, even if you've defected to a
Wintel machine, that you will immediately proceed to the nearest Apple retailer
and buy yourself that new Mac product when it's released. And you know what?
You will!
