Interestingly, I just built a K6-2 500 for $200 (inc. 64 megs RAM).  'Bout
shot the &**%$ thing after futzing with it for several hours trying to get
WinDud 98SE to load. Finally hacked the loader and got it going. Was
sitting there watching it load while playing on the 'Net with the G3 (6500
w/G3 card) and suddenly realised that I had not had a crash on the Mac in
months, and was still running on 8.1 loaded a year or so ago. The PC has
been updated probably 4 times since I built it, the 6500 had the G3 card
installed and more RAM. Nothing else.

Basically, the Intel (NOT WinTel) platform is pretty decent and cheap. Linux
or similar will probably do great on it. Still think that WinDud is just
that...a dud. $350 computers which take $700 worth of work to get
"acceptable???"  I have friends ALWAYS asking me to help them with their PCs;
"something's wrong!" they cry. Found out last week that a neighbor has an
iMac. She loves it. Gave her son the PC to play games. Says she's twice as
productive on the Mac. Says she never told me as she always heard I was
always fixing PCs and thought I was a PC freak. Showed her the office, now
she wants to "borrow" hardware! (scanner). Oh, well!

Remember......garbage in, garbage out!
