Hmm. It would be different behavior that what's expected now, because
if you subscribe to a thread you get emailed all replies to all
comments in the thread, not just replies to the comment you subscribed
to (if that makes sense). So you'd be getting potentially a whole lot
more email than you would if you were subscribed to a single comment.
There'd also have to be some front-end changes to, I suppose, make it
look like all of those invisible subscriptions were just one thing in
the UI ("send me replies to my comments in other journals"). And
probably some back-end changes to make it so people wouldn't hit
subscription limits from this.
But it's an interesting thought, and may or may not be easier to work
with than actually making a new event type. Someone who's very
familiar with the ESN code should be the person who does this, IMO
(i.e. not me). :)
