In that case - would we want to 'rejigger' ESN anyway? I can't be the only
person who tags entries AFTER I've hit 'post'. Which means, on the off
chance, anyone watching specific tags on my journal would NEVER be notified
when I post w/ something tagged as foo: bar or just foo, or whatever, b/c I
almost never put the tags in when I post and I doubt I'm the only one.

However, if we can find a way to list tags on the update.bml page, ESN
should keep trucking along just fine as is.

When you choose 'custom' from the 'show this entry to' box, you get a
drop-down of all of your custom friend groups. Could that same logic, w/
the hierarchical tag structure, be applied to the tag field? Click a
button, get a list of your top level tags, checkbox which of those you need
to child tags for, checkbox those tags to add, then post?

*tosses out more ideas*
