Last night while watching the news coverage I felt sad that I couldn't do
anything directly to help. Where I live I'm a volunteer fire fighter and
have a natural passion to step in and help. I had tears streaming down my
face while watching one of the scenes playing out on my television. This
scene was shot at street level just after one of the towers had collapsed.
These scene showed dozens of dazed fire fighters but was punctuated by the
sound of the fire fighters PASS alarms ringing. These alarms are used to
signal other fire fighters of a man down. I could hear dozens of them
sounding. As a fire fighter there is no single sound that is more
frightening.

On my desk this morning there was a card to start a once a week blood
donation club. The idea is for a group to donate 52 pints of blood over a
year's time. Consider it.
