I know a number of people who have lost jobs. My motto is this: "Don't kick a
guy when he's down". If somebody who's depressed/grieving says more than he
normally would, we have the option of choosing to be offended and condemning him
for it, or choosing to grieve with him. We seem to have come to the point where
we prefer choosing the former. I think choosing the latter is better. In some
situations, there may be someone on this list in a position to go one step
further by lending a helping hand (as Earl has suggested here, by posting open
jobs). The best option often requires personal involvement or even sacrifice.

Clearly, these are my opinions only, just a few personal thoughts with no regard
to technology, business or any intellectual pursuit whatsoever, merely human
interaction.

Outsourcing is an economic decision. Employers want to get the most value for
their money. If US labour is too expensive or not available, then employers
will look elsewhere.
The fact that unemployment is low, means that there are not a lot of local
workers.

In addition, the tech industry is constantly changing. For every EDI job lost,
there is probably another GS1 job gained.

We can help by posting EDI jobs on the list. People looking for jobs can
always do a search for the <JOBS> tag.

Unfortunately, my job as a software developer, is to reduce the number of EDI
jobs by making the process cheaper & more efficient for my clients.
