AS2 advantages: Free, direct (no 3rd party), immediate AS2 disadvantages: Complicated setup (certificate exchange), Expensive software (licenses), needs 24/7 connection to internet. Bottom line: AS2 is the future. VANs are nice, but expensive. Expensive is also relative. Some places do not have EDI staff...
