I am of no help whatsoever, but I would like to applaud someone from the demand
side caring about standards. I just finished customizing an SCC-14 carton label
for a customer that needs an extra barcode printed vertically on one side of
the label and a large graphical logo in one corner. The GTIN barcode is tiny,
and they requested it be in a non-standard symbology. O...K.... Let's do them
scratch & sniff next time!

Subject: [EDI-L] <TECH> Seal Number on 856?

I almost hesitate to post this on a Friday, but I'll give it a shot...

My company is the Buyer in the supply chain and we receive 856s from our
suppliers. We are currently using 4010VICS for the X12 856 transaction. I have
recently discovered that our mapping specs' requirement of our suppliers
including the trailer/container seal number in TD309 is not necessarily
"legal", as the standards state "NOT USED IN RETAIL INDUSTRY" (which is what we
are in). I looked ahead to current standards to see if that restriction had
possibly been reversed at some point in subsequent standards versions, but it
doesn't look like it has.

My question is where are others asking for/providing a seal number on the 856?
