To add some fuel to the fire.. I work with UPS billing on a weekly basis at
my EDI job. At least twice a year, they either add additional loops to the
‘standard’ or they are famous for changing the meaning of a qualifier to fit
their needs. I have to make semi-annual map changes to keep up so our
invoicing output is correct.

So even though they’re using the ‘standard’, they add loops, segments,
change qualifier meanings.. that make their data ‘non-standard’ standard. I
guess they’re the 800 pound gorilla.

Subject: [EDI-L] Deviating from X12 Standards

Hello Group
We have a customer that insists on receiving the SAC-05 element with the
explicit decimal as opposed to the implied decimal type N2 defined in the
standards.
Has anyone heard of this type of exception being used that defies the
standards.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
