This discussion reminds me of when we get a (new) customer who is complaining that the file (e.g., PO) we can deliver to them from the X12 data does not contain all the information that the printed PO does.
I have to explain what a "print program" is and how it has access to the sender's internal data tables. I try to avoid the esoteric discussion of why X12 is supposed to be more "minimalist." I have an EDIFACT receiver who is trying to get their (Retailer) TP to add a (special) FTX that's supposed to include information about the Sales Agent (there's no existing place for it in the TP's IG). The response was less-than-positive and we'll see if they ever start including it.
