ON the other hand, if we put the florida situation in the context of the
overall election ... and see that al gore won ONLY about 1/4 of the states
(and you have to win states to win the electoral college) ... and, given
the prosperity of the country and the fact that he was an incumbent (in a
way) ... it is rather amazing that he was not able to mount a campaign that
"registered" with a larger majority of the populace (even though he seems
to have won the popular vote by a bit) ... so, the ultimate failure in this
election was NOT florida ... (even though is sort of is a mess) ... BUT the
fact that al gore was not the strong candidate that democrats really
thought he would be ...

also, al gore was supposed to "clean up" in the debates and, the fact is,
he did not ... that was a huge turnaround for bush ...

so, while i was a strong al gore supporter and still am ... let's don't
blame florida for his failure to win the presidential election ... if he
could have held his own in about 1/2 of the states ... this would have been
no contest ...

fact is, he could not

in ANY case ... it is time to move on ... al gore should say enough is
enough ...
