Of course - for example, if you analyse mean-corrected data... It can even happen with data that are strictly positive. The log-normal distribution with sigma-squared>ln(2) is an example that has standard deviation larger than the mean; e.g. with sigma-squared=1, the standard deviation will be about 130% of the mean.
