Since you "buggered a couple screws", I suggest you buy yourself a new 
#1 phillip0s screwdriver.
Get a good one and throw those worn ones away.

I replace the one I use at the workbench every 5 to 6 months.  It is 
used every day, but I do not want to strip the heads on the screws in my 
customer's radios either.

If you want to test your screwdriver, put a phillips screw on the tip 
and turn it so the screwdriver shaft is horizontal - if the screw falls 
off, the tip is worn and should be replaced.
