Mike, You didn't mention if you had a large monitor connected but consider that the noise you "see" may come from it or a TV your have connected.
Do you see the pattern on the P3 also? Watch the P3 screen and turn the large monitor off and see if the signal disappears. Many of them do make a lot of electrical "noise" - particularly the screen light source and very particularly plasma displays.
