I still have fond memories of travelling into NYC to take the exam with a bunch of guys from our Explorer Post (former W2NVB). The line of keys and headsets was pretty impressive to this kid. Of course, after the exam was over, we all headed down to "Radio Row" and it's treasure trove of everything imaginable a ham could want...
