Eric Scace K3NA has an article in the current issue of the National Contest Journal (Jan/Feb 2007, pp. 7-10.) about headphones for contesting. His contention is that the best headphone solution provides complete passive audio isolation from noises in the environment, with perfect, distortion-free audio from the radio. What he determined worked best for him were custom-molded in-ear monitors (such as the kind used by professional concert musicians) and high-isolation, deep shelf industrial earmuffs.
The custom-molded in-ear monitors are not cheap and not exactly what the original poster of this thread has in mind, I'm sure... -- Kenneth E.
