Jeff, The MFJ will work just fine. I use a similar one from Drake which is air cooled for 100 watts. You should not put in a KW into the dummy load...but the MFJ would work OK. MFJ-260C. At 100 watts out...you can use it for 1.5 minutes. Or 25 watts continuous. This should work fine for what you need.

The K3 manual says this is just a 5W test and I need a load with low VSWR from 160 to 6. What is considered "low" SWR? Anything under 1:5?
