Oh, goddess. That's right. That was the second most maddening thing
about trying to type while I was in Germany. The `z' thing being the
most. :)

As I mentioned, changing this is trivial. `/!/' suits me, with my Dvorak
layout, but it's a one variable change.

If people like this suggestion, I am happy to poll for proposals. I
don't think `/./' is a good idea - it's ambiguous with standard path
components.

Maybe '/?/ which requires toggling the shift state on the same key. :)
