Contrast that, as I pointed out, to Mail.app, Preview.app, Temrinal.app, MS Word (not Word.app because, well, it isn't) or any other application which name is a common word that could easily be taken to mean either another application, or a generit term.
For example, I might talk about "the terminal" but then I am talking about the command line itself. About bash or something. If I am talking about the preferences in the application, it is always (and has to be to avoid confusion) Terminal.app.
