Not entirely true. Mac application /bundles/ are usually ending with
.app. But not every Mac application is in fact a bundle. Plain
executable files and oldstyle PEF (CFM) based applications (Office until
just recently used that if I'm not incorrect) does not usually have a
filename extension.

Frankly, I don't care if we call it Letter or Letter.app. They are both
fine.
