I haven't read this mailing-list archive - so please excuse me if
my proposal already was mentioned.
Replying to an email in the Inbox should move my reply in the Sent
folder.
Replying to an email in some IMAP folder should move my reply into
the same IMAP folder, not in the Sent folder.
Only as an option.
I, for instance, would end up with duplicate copies of every message
I send to a mailing list in the mailing list's folder
OK, make this an option for each IMAP folder. Default is OFF.
I have separate folders for friends and family, where I always move my
own sent emails manually. For these folders I would switch on that
option.
and none in the Sent folder, where (in my obviously very parochial
perspective) sent mail belongs.
Even better - make the IMAP folder option tristate.
Default = move to Sent
Option_1 = move to the IMAP folder where the original email sits
Option_2 = move to trash after sending
For all mailinglist folders, I would use option_2, since I would
receive my own email from the listserver seconds later anyway. So why
keep my sent email?
