If Letters is going to include traditional filters and traditional boxes, you can do most of this with sending filters.
I have my client setup currently to file sent emails in specific folders for known people/groups, and list sent mail in my sent box (since I get a copy from the mailing list). All done with sending filters. My client doesn't have a sent mail in the current box option, so I don't have that part working.
