That depends on your criteria for failure. This app is targeting
"developers and power users", and in my experience, these folks tend to
favor plain text. Delivering on the stated goals of your vision document
is not failure in my book.
Was Mailsmith a failure? Well, I don't think so. But if others think it
was, I would argue that it "failed" in the end more so because it lacked
IMAP support, and not because it was a plain text-only client. I think
it's fair to say that Mailsmith also targeted advanced email users (do I
really have to say "power users"?). Apparently these people -- the ones
who were willing to pay $99 for an email client -- did not have a
problem with the fact that it did plain text only.
