This app is targeting "developers and power users", and in my experience, these folks tend to favor plain text.

But your experience is limited, and you are likely mentally excluding HTML users automatically from consideration as power users.

The person I know who gets the most emails gets over 1,000 everyday. He uses thunderbird as it's the only client that's handled that load. Course, he's on Windows.

Was Mailsmith a failure?

Yes.

Well, I don't think so. But if others think it was, I would argue that it "failed" in the end more so because it lacked IMAP support, and not because it was a plain text-only client.

It failed for several reasons. Enforcing plain text was a minor one, but part Of the equation. Imap was a larger one. Pricing was there. Powerful, but confusing, filtering was part if it too. Mail.app being 'good enough' was the main one. _______________________________________________
