On 5300s, according to Apple, zapping the PRAM can reset the power manager. The button on the back is a reset button, useful for shutting down in a hard crash, which also resets the power manager if done in the way I described. I have a 5300 and have reset the power manager by the reset button, but not specifically by Zapping PRAM. I have also reset it by removing the internal back-up battery (not the battery pack), which not only resets the power manager more fully, it completely resets the PRAM (as well as the manufacture date, hours of use, etc.)
