I had been doing this. The problem seemed to be that although the variable was already a string, Emailer didn't seem to want to accept it as such. In the Script Editor log, it showed up in a larger point font than a "normal" string value. I wasn't able to turn up enough docs on the log function to find out what the different size meant. So when I passed it to a dislplay dialog, it showed exactly as it should (as a string). There was no difference as far as the display dialog was concerend between a manually made string (set myVar to "This is my string") and the string created thru the iPhoto calls. MY ultimate fix was simply to rebuild the string by walking the characters, getting their ASCII number value, and then build a fresh string using those numbers back into ASCII characters. By all means, there should be no difference between the original and ending strings, but that is what it took to get Emailer to like the path and accept it. > tell app "Smile" to return theVariableInQuestion > -- should put it in Smile's log without leaving iPhoto I'm going to have to check out Smile. Sounds like it could really be handy for writing AppleScripts. >Also, if the script HAS to be triggered the original way, but you want >normal editing too, you could set the original script to just trigger >another external script, and put the guts of your script there. The >original script will probably have to get and pass some parameters to the >other, like the selected photos etc. Yeah, the script gets parameters passed from iPhoto when it is called. So it needs to be launched from inside iPhoto... however, the passing to a 2nd script trick probably would have worked (although, I wonder if doing so would have cleared the string problem itself, and given me another false sense that it was working). >My "Zoom" script does that: > > open theMessage > >where theMessage is a reference to the message :) I tried that, but it did nothing (and left the applescript hung waiting for the step to complete). What I did was: set new_message to make new outgoing message open new_message I wondering if it is because in your script the message variable represents the currently selected message... whereas in mine, the variable just represents a message in the database (and not a selected one). Maybe I have to force a selection of the message first. Any hints on how to do that (probably have to display the outbox first, then issue the select of the message... more stuff to play with). Thanks for the tips! But like I said, it just sat and did nothing. -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
