I doubled the memory to 14mb, and it is a little faster. I usually sort by date, but sometimes change for the moment to name. I do notice that once I change back and forth within a folder, I can change again, say, from date to name and it is instantaneous. Then, after having done this with one or two more folders (each with some delay making the change) I can then go to any other folder and the change from date to name is nearly instantaneous. I have the same phenomenon with accessing contextual menus in the finder! The first time with one icon delays about 5 seconds, the next time is instantaneous. After doing a couple more icons with delays, any subsequent one is instantaneous, until I leave the finder to do some other operations. Any yes, I do optimize (DW) regularly!
