I have that same setup.
I just did a quick mini-test: I have a folder with over 2200 messages in
it, sorted by date. I clicked on From/To and it took about 17 seconds to
re-sort. I clicked on Date and it sorted again almost instantly. Going
back and forth between Date and From/To after that was pretty
instantaneous.
I also find contextual menus very slow. It's faster to do it just about
any other way.
