I'd love to do a stream log. How would I go about that?
Are you on OS 9 or OS X?
Although, it may not matter. I don't know if Interarchy will run on
OS 9 in Classic, but it might, and if it does, it is probably the
easiest way to get a log.
Download the latest Interarchy demo from Stairways.com and install
it. When you run it, there is an option for watching the network
traffic (I don't have it installed on this machine, so I can't tell
you exactly where it is, plus they have moved it in different
versions, so I don't actually know where it might be on the latest
version).
Once you tell it to start logging the traffic, try sending email
using the setup that fails. A window in Interarchy will open and
record all network traffic going to and from that computer. After the
email attempt fails, go back to Interarchy and tell it to stop
logging traffic. Now read thru the log, you should be able to find
the section where it actually attempted to send the email. If what
are are looking at doesn't make any sense to you, feel free to
forward the log to me (but do it off list so you don't end up sharing
the info with the world).
