Dear List,

I do believe it is possible to find the major problem with Emailer on OS
10.4.

Just to be able to join you, I have transferred an emailer setup to a
10.4 machine, whereas it used to run on Panther 10.3.

I do see a coincidence or resemblence between 2 problems that occur.

1) Outside emailer, I often get the message that a file cannot be copied
because it is in use, or the message that a file cannot be deleted
because it is in use.

2) As some of you reported, inside emailer, some messages come in twice.

I believe both problems are related.
As Chris suggested, something goes wrong with the temp incoming files.

After being read by CE, the temp files are supposed to be deleted.
But if backstage that delete doesnt succeed, then next time the files are
still there, and are read a second time.

So the question is:

- can we find what is keeping files in-use on Mac OS ?
- is it the finder multi-column browser with preview ?
- is it maybe Spotlight or Sherlock indexing ?
- is it a file locking bug in the OS ?
- is it some browser or file browser in an "Open file" dialog.

Not merely because of my pro-CE rant, :-)
but just for common sense,
we should not throw CE overboard because of an error that can be stupid
and simple.
And as most errors, they look heavy en complex as long as they haven't
been found.

I have one clue which I will first test, and report back to you.
I swear we have the brains on this list to tackle this.. dont you think
so Chris ? :-)

Marc
