Hello all - pardon the off-topic question, but I seem to need some help
here.
After two hours of fooling around with my DSL modem, and two calls to
Cavalier Telephone tech support, I **still** have no DSL service. So, I
throw myself at the mercy of the knowledgeable on this list.
The setup **seems** simple - System Prefs -> Network - under TCP/IP,
type in the IP address, subnet mask, etc, and it should work. After a
lot of go-round with CavTel tech support, they said my ethernet must be
faulty, but I tried it on my daughter's eMac and her new MacBook, all
with the same (non)result. So, I wonder, could it be the ethernet cord?
Or the modem? The phone line is fine, because dial-up still works.
I read David Pogue (Missing Manual) re: ethernet connections, but there
doesn't seem to be much to know or configure beyond what CavTel says in
their instructions.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Frustrated in Richmond...
