The problem is that I use different addresses to talk to different

message through one address which I want to send to somebody who knows me
on a different address. (As, for example, this address is one which I
only use for subscribing to mailing lists. If I get a message on a
different account, I can't forward it to this list unless I send it from *this* account, because none of my other addresses are subscribed to this
list.)

You do know that you can alter what address/account Emailer uses to send an email. There is a popup on the mail window that sets what account is being used. So you can hit reply to an email, and then change the account at will and it will send from whatever account you pick in the popup.

Of course, that doesn't help you with the issue of having some of your accounts in Thunderbird.
